Abstract

Based on geological data and reservoir data, the Jatibarang Volcanic Formation is composed of natural fractures and there is also a pressure drop (depleted) from 0.438 psi/ft to 0.287 psi/ft. in terms of data drilling, conventional drilling or (Overbalance Drilling) applied in the Jatibarang Volcanic Formation always experiences problems of loss of circulation and also the pipe is pinched. so that the Jatibarang Volcanic Formation is a suitable formation for the application of underbalanced drilling. The underbalanced drilling technique applied to the JTB-189A Well is aerated drilling by reducing the density of the water base mud using nitrogen to obtain the desired aerated mud density where the hydrostatic pressure does not exceed the formation pressure. The method used to calculate volumetric Nitrogen is injected at the surface using the Gas Law method, because the calculations are closer to the reality in the field. The re-design carried out on underbalanced drilling is expected to provide better borehole repairs when in other wells in the Jatibarang Field so that the problem of lost circulation a nd pinched pipe damage can be avoided. In this study, the velocity value of the aerated mud at a depth of 6489.8 ft is greater than the minimum speed required to produce drill cuttings, 27 fpm is greater than the minimum velocity value required for cutting of 29.95 fpm. Therefore, the powder in OH 6” – DP 3.5” is categorized as good, and if viewed from the concentration of drill cuttings in the annulus no more than 5%, namely 1.2%, and the value of FT (Cutting Transport Ratio) in the annulus >80% so that the cutting removal has been categorized good so that the problem of pinched pipes will not occur and the drilling process will not experience problems, and the average reservoir pressure is greater than the hydrostatic pressure so that circulation losses will not occur.
