Abstract

The ability to understand mathematical concepts that have been possessed by someone has been good, then the mathematical power it has will also develop we1l. Understaading mathematical concepts will make it easier to understand further more complex concepts. This research aims to improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts through contextual learning approaches. The study population was all students of class \rlII MTs Hasanah pekanbaru. The sample was selected by means of purposive sampling rvhich established that class WII.I was the experimental class and class VIII.2 was the control class. Data collection techniques used were test sheets of concept understanding and documentation capabilities. Data analysis techniques used are descriptive data analysis techniques and inferential data analysis techniques. From the results of the study it was concluded that there ,was an increase in the ability to understard students' mathematical concepts through contextual leaming approaches at MTs Hasanah Pekanbaru.
