Abstract
Transmigration is one of the population programs in Indonesia that has been going on for quite a long time. Starting from the era of the Dutch colonial government in 1905 (known as colonization) with the main objective not only to reduce population density on the island of Java, but also to meet the needs of labor in areas outside Java. Labuhan Tangga Baru Village is part of Bangko District, Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province, which experienced a transmigration process, in 1998. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of transmigration on community welfare and its impact on the development of the Labuhan Tangga Baru Village area. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, with techniquesprimary and secondary data collection. The data processing analysis used was descriptive statistical analysis method analysis through the mean table (cross tabulation) using SPSS 13 software. Based on the results of previous research, there have been changes in the socio-economic conditions of the transmigrant community in Labuhan Tangga Baru, in this case the employment and income levels are much better, when compared to the socio-economic conditions in their home regions. The role of transmigration for regional development has reaped various changes such as changes in educational facilities, health care and worship. It can be said that the transmigration program had a good effect on the transmigrant community.
