Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of biology students of class VIIA SMPN 01 Rambah Hilir Academic Year 2019/2020 through the application of discussion methods using handouts. This research is a classroom action research (PTK). Data collection was carried out in October to November 2018. The research subjects were 21 students of class VIIA SMPN 01 Rambah Hilir, consisting of 13 boys and 8 girls. Data collection uses LKPD, KUIS, and UB. The data were processed using descriptive analysis. The study consisted of 2 cycles consisting of 8 meetings (cycle 1 was 4 meetings and cycle 2 was 4 meetings), and 2 Block Exams. Cycle I absorption has increased (14.35%) compared to before CAR (66.67%), after CAR Cycle I (81.52%). In the second cycle the absorption of KDP students increased by (4.76%) from (81.52%) in the first cycle to (85.78%) in the second cycle. Learning outcomes of KI cycle I increased by (3.28%) from (72.62%) before PTK became (75.90%) in cycle I. In cycle II, the absorption of KI increased by (4.20%) from (75.90%) in the first cycle to (80.10%) in the second cycle. Based on the results of the study it was concluded that teaching and learning activities by applying the discussion method using handouts can improve biology learning outcomes of students of class VIIA SMPN 01 Rambah Hilir Academic Year 2019/2020.
