Abstract

Fluid flow from wells to collection stations in oil fields is a major concern in the oil and gas industry. Because heavy oil flowing in the ordinary flowline contains wax. Candles will be easily formed on the wall flow so that it disrupts the fluid transportation system from the wellhead to the collection station. If the wax is thicker in the flowline, it will make the fluid flow in the flowline becomes blocked. One way to handle deposited wax in a flowline can be to use microbiological material in the form of bacteria. If the bacteria are injected into the flowline it will degrade the wax component by breaking the long chain wax. The first step of this research is to observe the ability of bacteria strains to live and thrive on light crude oil. The second step is to test the ability of bacteria to degrade wax by injecting bacteria into a prototype flowline that is deposited waxed for 7 days. The observation was obtained that the seeds (strains) of bacillus cereus bacteria have been able to live and develop on light crude oil is characterized by the emergence of bacterial colonies. Furthermore, the results of testing using the prototype flowline obtained the results of the previous ˚API 34.0375 to 35.5996, indicating that the deposited wax has become more fluid. This liquid flow rate after measuring using volume per time obtained 1 ml / sec. The specific gravity before degradation of 0.8548 to 0.8464 indicates the density of the wax has decreased. The pour point value before 50˚C degradation becomes 34˚C, indicating the ability of wax after degradation remains liquid phase at lower temperatures. Cold point before degradation is 33˚C, after degradation to 31˚C. Indicates that the bacterium Bacillus cereus is able to handle the wax formed in the flowline.
