Abstract

ASTM A36 steel is steel that has a low carbon content. The problem that often occurs in steel is corrosion. There are various ways that have been done to reduce the corrosion rate of metals, one of which is the addition of a corrosion inhibitor. Ketapang tree is a type of plant that is used as a corrosion inhibitor because it contains tannins in its leaves. Tannins are complex compounds that can be used as inhibitors to protect metals from corrosion. This study aims to determine the effect of the bio inhibitor composition of ketapang leaf extract on the corrosion rate of ASTM A36 steel in brine. The method of measuring the corrosion rate used is the weight loss method. The composition of the bio inhibitor is used as much as 0 ppm, 1500 ppm, 2000 ppm, 2500 ppm, 3000 ppm and soaked for 25 days and the corrosion rate is calculated every 5th, 10th, 15th, 25th day. increasing the amount of inhibitor concentration and the rate of corrosion will increase with increasing immersion time. The lowest corrosion rate value that occurred at 25 days was at a concentration of 3000 ppm, namely 0.0879 mm / y, 15 days occurred at a concentration of 3000 ppm, namely 0.0771 mm / y, 10 days occurred at a concentration of 3000 ppm, namely 0, 0751 mm / y, a time of 5 days occurs at a concentration of 3000 ppm, namely 0.0693 mm / y. The value of the inhibitor efficiency will increase as the amount of inhibitor concentration is given. The highest inhibitor efficiency occurred at a concentration of 3000 ppm with a soaking time for 25 days, namely 76.24%.
