Abstract
Areca nut (Areca Catechu L) is one of the industrial plants that have many benefits for humans. Like coconut, Areca nut is a versatile plant, because from the roots to the fruit it can be used for human needs. In doing the drying process or drying requires a long drying process. So that the drying time is relatively shorter and the quality of the drying results is better, In carrying out the drying or drying process, the drying process is carried out using solar engineering technology as an improvement from natural and traditional drying methods. Solar Dryer (Solar Dryer) is one way of drying areca nut, where the principle of work is sunlight is absorbed or accommodated through the collector, the heat that will be generated from the collector is carried by the airflow system to the plenum or heat collector and to the drying room which consists of several shelves utilizing solar energy radiation more optimally. The betel nut that will be tested is a fruit that has been split into two The tested betel nut weighing 3 kg was dried using a dryer, and another 3 kg was dried under direct sunlight. From the mass of 3 kg of betel nut, the initial water content was obtained using a moisture meter, namely the Moisture meter with a water content of between 70-75%, The betel nut is dried in the sun to a mass of 0.6 kg with a final moisture content ranging from 5-10%. The benefits of the research are providing education about areca nut dryers using solar energy. Can master the process of making areca nut dryers using solar energy using the solar collector method.
