Abstract
Pineapple fiber raw material is one type of natural resource wealth that cannot be utilized optimally, so it is necessary to conduct research on the development of natural fiber composite technology by utilizing pineapple leaf fiber and polyester resin. The purpose of this study was to obtain the effect of variations of activated carbon on the tensile and bending strength of the pineapple leaf fiber composite material and polyester matrix, to obtain the microstructure of the addition of activated carbon to the pineapple leaf fiber composite and polyester matrix. In this study the mold is made of glass with a thickness of 8mm, a length of 150 mm, and a width of 100 mm, the method used in making samples using the lay out method with room temperature and unidirectional fiber arrangement, with variations in the composition of 30% pineapple leaf fiber + 69% matrix + 1% activated carbon, 30% pineapple leaf fiber + 68.5% matrix + 1.5% activated carbon, 30% pineapple leaf fiber + 68% matrix + 2% activated carbon, and 100% polyester resin. The results of the research that I have done have the highest bending strength in the addition of 1% activated carbon with a value of 33.29 N/mm2, and the tensile test results obtained the highest value at the addition of 1% activated carbon with a value of 16.75 N/ mm2. While in macro photo testing, the highest diameter and distance were obtained with the addition of 1,5% activated carbon. The application in this research is for the manufacture of water polytank in the household.
