Abstract
Sound pollution, a problem that often arises is being faced by the people of Indonesia and is quite disturbing the normal hearing of the human ear. This noise pollution can be reduced or reduced by using materials that can absorb sound. The sound-dampening material in this study utilizes materials from natural fibers. The composite material in this study made from coconut fiber and mother-in-law's tongue with an epoxy resin matrix is an alternative sound-dampening material that is environmentally friendly, easy to obtain and inexpensive. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the composition of coco fiber and mother-in-law's tongue fiber on the value of the sound absorption coefficient (NAC). This research uses composites made with random fiber arrangement orientation by varying the filler in order to get a sound-absorbing material that absorbs sound well. The filler variations in question are Epoxy Resin 50% Coconut Fiber 25% Tongue-in-law 25%, Epoxy Resin 50% Coconut Fiber 35% Tongue-in-law 15% and Epoxy Resin 50% Coconut Fiber 15% Tongue-in-law 35%. The method of data collection is by conducting sound attenuation testing on each composite specimen and the data obtained from this study are able to produce sound absorbing performance well. From the test results, the value of the sound absorption coefficient all composite samples have met the requirements of ISO 11654 with a value of 0.15 in the frequency range of 100 – 5000 Hz. The results of the highest sound absorption coefficient in the first sample with a value of 0.4353 and the lowest value in the third sample with a value of 0.1426.
