Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain the characteristics of tensile strength and impact of a hybrid composite material reinforced with a mixture of acacia wood powder and oil palm empty fruit bunches (TKKS). With the large amount of acacia and palm oil waste, it is hoped that it will be useful for the manufacture of hybrid composites, especially in the acacia sawdust and oil palm empty marks, which are often thrown away and cause waste. So that this waste can be used for the manufacture of composites. by combining acacia sawdust and oil palm empty fruit bunches with epoxy resin. So it is necessary to test the composite on tensile and impact toughness. With variations in the volume of acacia husk fiber / oil palm empty fruit bunches; 0/40, 10/30, 20/20, 30/10, 40/0. With the aim of getting the right composition and increasing the usability of waste from acacia trees and oil palm trees into new materials. The results of this study are expected to be used for accessory materials such as car bumpers and motorcycle bodies, this stage begins with the selection of fibers and mixing of epoxy resin. Manufacture of specimens and test procedures referring to ASTM-A370-03 for tensile and ASTM-D6110-02 for impact. . The results of the tensile and impact tests show that the strength of the tensile test is the largest at 20.22 N/mm2 with a volume fraction of 60% resin+40% acacia fiber while the lowest strength for the tensile test is 4.90 N/mm2 with a volume fraction of 60% resin+10 acacia + 30% tks. and the greatest impact toughness was 0.49 J/mm2 for the 60% resin+20% acacia fiber+20% tkks fraction while the lowest strength for the impact test was 0.47 J/mm2 for the 60% resin+40% volume fraction. It can be concluded that if there are more acacia fiber fractions to make specimens, the better strength and toughness will be.
