Abstract

Nowadays with technological developments began many applications of the use of silica in industry, especially in the use of silica at small particle sizes to micron scale or even nanosylika. Previously silica sand was widely used in the oil and gas industry as proppant (franksand) as well as a water filter and petroleum industry. The choice of proppant depends on the type of permeability or strength of the grain required. Where proppant with a large porosity size will provide better fracture permeability. The study aimed to determine the effect of silica and aluminum sand composition on porosity, permeability and microstructure of composite pellets. Using the composition of silica sand, aluminum and polyethylene glycol which compares differently, namely SiO2 - Al - PEG: 60% - 30% - 10%, 70% - 20% - 10%, 80% - 10% - 10%. Researchers made composite pellets with a uniform grain-sized silica sand content (100 mesh), used a polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG) type adhesive and did a pressure of 5000 kg, and provided a sintering temperature of 1000 C. From the results of this study the optimum porosity value obtained was 42.24% and the optimum permeability value obtained by 46 mD. o
