Abstract

Administratively, the research is located in the concession area of PT. Berau Coal Site Binungan Block 7 in East Kalimantan Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the geological conditions of coal in general , physical characteristics and quality of coal proximate test, and anomalies. The research method was carried out by collecting field sample data and laboratory analysis. The research area has four coal seams assigned ELL, ELU, EUL, and EUU seams. The geological condition of coal is seen from rock units with coal inserts, including Lati Sandstone(SBP) and Lati Claystone (SBL) with lateral distribution. The physical characteristics of coal are black, with a different luster for each seam, namely glassy to dull luster, dominant streak is blackish brown, hardness is brittle – slightly hard, sub-concoidal fragments – coindal and planar, dominant cleats are cutting coal seams, and mineral impurities are commonly encountered. resin and resin. The value of the calorific quality of coal is seen based on the actual value or dry ash free (daf) with values above 7000 kcal/kg. The anomaly is seen based on the total sulfur value. N use values the total sulfur looked different contained in ELL and ELU seam toward the east area of research in blocks 122, 118, and 116 with a value of 3:25% to 3.6%. in the ELU seam there is one different value right in the eastern part of the research area in block 117 with a value of 2.89%.
