Abstract

Kompang is one of the typical Malay musical instruments that involves a group of people who play it to produce music. This gave rise to a community playing Kompang. Playing Kompang in groups is an activity that supports social relations in the supporting community groups. This study explores members of the Kompang community and proves that there are positive social relationships within them. This study uses an exploratory qualitative approach to members of the Kompang community. The subjects in this study amounted to 2 people, namely community members and key informants, namely the chairman and founder of the Kompang Pekanbaru community using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done by using interview and observation methods. The results of the identification of social relations among members of the Kompang community show that there is communication, social contact, interaction (fellow members or trainers), and personal (goals, which are obtained, psychological). The prerequisite in social relations is, of course, communication and interaction in the community as a simulation of social relations, social interaction, and the kompang community provides good potential for building the social side in humans.
