Abstract

To reduce the effect of excessive deflection on buildings due to lateral loads, a structure that can reduce the effect of earthquake loads is needed, namely the shear wall structure. Core wall is a modification of the shear wall structure that can withstand the influence of lateral loads and the torque effect of the eccentricity and can also be used as a lift space. In planning, the core wall is given an opening that functions as an elevator door. With the presence of openings can influence the stiffness that occurs in the core wall. This study aims to determine the dynamic characteristics of structures in irregular buildings, torsional irregularities and the effect of openings on the core wall in resisting lateral loads in irregular buildings. The building to be studied is an L-shaped irregular building with the addition of a core wall. The building functioned as a hospital located in the city of Padang assuming the condition of the land as soft soil. The method used in this study is dynamic analysis of spectrum responses based on SNI 1726-2012. The initial stage of this research was to get the best core wall placement position in reducing the effects of earthquake loads. After obtaining the optimal position, further investigation of 12 types of openings will be carried out on the core wall to determine the deformation performance due to the earthquake load. The results of the study on irregular buildings based on the dynamic characteristics of the structure, the building without the core wall experienced a rotation movement behavior and after adding a 6 m × 6 m core wall with 350 mm thickness of 2 pieces, the building experienced translational movement behavior. From the results of torsional irregularities based on SNI 1726-2012, buildings without core walls experience type 1a torsional irregularities in direction Y, buildings with core walls experience type 1a torsional irregularities in Y direction and buildings with openings in the core wall experience type 1a torsional irregularities in model 1 , model 3, model 4, model, model 11. After obtaining the optimal position from the placement of core walls in the building, the results of the core wall structure performance due to openings in the building are based on the value of story drift for X direction, all openings models meet the boundary conditions the permit deviation is in accordance with SNI 1726-2012 and for Y direction on model 11 7th floor exceeds the permit deviation value of 0.19% and the building structure is still safe in receiving earthquake loads.
