Abstract
The rapid development of urban settlements is caused by population growth and urbanization resulting in the emergence of slum areas. One of the slums in Pekanbaru City is located in Lembah Damai areas. The Lembah Damai areas has a medium level of slums with irregular building, very dense population and then deficiency of housing infrastructure. The purpose of this study is to determine the priority of environmental handling slums in the Lembah Damai areas. This study using a non probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling type to determine respondents. The research method using mixed methods is a quantitative and qualitative methods, while the analysis using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) with Expert Choice software version 11 as an analysis tool. The results of this study are the characteristics of slum area in Lembah Damai that is the majority of residents are indigenous people, some people still poor society, very dense population, some buildings are semi permanent and non permanent as a residence, and some conditions of facilities and infrastructure are not adequate. Based on the results of the scoring, indicating the result there is three dominant factors causing slum in the Lembah Damai areas which is the condition of environmental drainage, trash management and fire security. Whereas the alternative that becomes the main priority in handling slums in the Lembah Damai areas is the Tridaya Concept (score 0,400).
