Abstract
The cooling system on the engine uses a device called a radiator, where the radiator functions to cool the temperature of the radiator fluid which has absorbed heat from the engine, so that the engine working temperature can be maintained. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the radiator of several types of water coolants, including mineral water. This study uses an Isuzu Panther Diesel engine named Engine Stand. Data were collected within 15 minutes at each variation of the 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2300 rpm rotation of each water coolant used, including mineral water. From this research, the data taken include the temperature of the radiator fluid that enters and leaves the radiator, the air temperature in front of and behind the radiator, measures the air velocity in front of and behind the radiator and finally looks at the flow rate of the radiator fluid. The results of research from several types of water coolant and mineral water show that coolant C has an average effectiveness higher than the other coolants, with a value of 0.2636 for coolant B, the average effectiveness is 0.2205, while coolant A has an average effectiveness. an average of 0.2129 and mineral water has the lowest average effectiveness with a value of 0.1832. The heat transfer rate is directly proportional to the effectiveness value of the radiator, that is, the faster the heat transfer rate, the higher the radiator effectiveness value. So in this study it can be said that coolant C is a better coolant in terms of radiator effectiveness and heat transfer.
