Abstract

Crude oil emulsion is frequently encountered in petroleum industry, especially at production phase. Crude oil is widely commingled with water, which generates a number of operational problems during oil production process such as corrosion and degradation of oil quality. However, The demulsifier is needed to separate oil and water in emulsion. This research aims to determine the ability of the demulsifier which made from basical substances such as coconut oil, lemon, cassava starch, calcium hydroxide and liquid soap. This research used the bottle test method to testing the demulsification of emulsion sample with temperature variations 50oC, 60oC, 70oC. Consentration demulsifier 0.2 ml, 0.4 ml, 0.6 ml, 0.8 ml, 1 ml and testing time for 180 minutes with observation every 30 minutes. This demulsifier expected to be able to overcome emulsion more effective against commersial demulsifer. From the results of this research were obtained the DA 1 at 60oC and 70oC was the highest separated water volume by 30 ml. The same demulsification result obtained between DA 1 and DK 1 by 30 ml separated water. Nevertheless, DA 1 is more effective than DK 1 based on separating time, DA 1 required a shorter separation time to attained the maximal value of separated water volume, it required 60 minute. On the other hand, DK 1 required 120 minute to attained the maximal volume to separating the water from oil.
