Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the interaction of various compositions of betel leaf and basil leaves and application intervals against fruit fly pests on red chili plants. The research was carried out in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of Riau, for 5 months from November 2020 to March 2021. The study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two factors, firstly various compositions of betel leaf and basil leaves, the second application interval where each factor consisted of of 4 levels. The parameters observed were age when symptoms of other pests appeared, age when symptoms of disease appeared, plant height, flowering age, age at which symptoms of fruit fly pests appeared, age at harvest, number of fruit attacked, and percentage of fruit attacked. Observational data were analyzed statistically and continued with the BNJ test at 5% level. The results of the observations showed the interaction effect of various compositions of betel leaf and basil leaves and the application interval had a significant effect on the age at which symptoms of fruit fly pests appeared, harvest age, and the number of fruit attacked with the best treatment, namely giving 150g of betel + 150g basil at intervals of 2 days. The main effect of various compositions of betel leaf and basil leaves had a significant effect on the percentage of fruit attacked with the best treatment being 150g betel + 150g basil. The main effect of the application interval had a significant effect on the percentage of fruit attacked with the best treatment at intervals of 2 days.
