Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the interaction of tilapia population density and various growing media on the growth and production of romaine lettuce. This research was conducted in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of Riau from December 2020 to January 2021. This study used a Divided Plot Design (RPT) in the RAL, the first factor was the population density of tilapia (N) which consisted of 4 treatment levels, namely: (hydroponics), 10, 20, and 30 tails. The second factor is the planting medium which consists of 4 levels of treatment, namely: rockwool, cocopeat, husk charcoal and bokashi. Parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, root volume, economic wet weight, dry weight and root crown ratio. The data were statistically analyzed and continued with the honest significant difference test (BNJ) at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction effect of tilapia population density and various growing media was significant on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, root volume, economic wet weight and plant dry weight. All parameters of romaine lettuce observed in this study obtained the best results in the interaction of hydroponic treatment and bokashi growing media. The population density of tilapia in aquaponics treatment had a significant effect on all plant parameters. The best population density is in aquaponics with 20 tilapia. Planting media treatment had a significant effect on all observed parameters and bokashi growing media was the best and had a significant effect on all parameters.
