Abstract

The background of this research was that people often taking loan and debt to survive their life. It was to fulfil their needs. Economic problem was a very important problem in human life. In fact, loan agreement with a collateral often happened in society such as loan and debt with collateral commonly called pawning (Rahn). Rahn was an action to hold properties from borrower as a collateral toward a received loan or debt. Almost all people heard the word “Pawning” but some of them did not have a good understanding about it and what was the offers by pawnshop. Therefore, people needed to be explained about pawning by Ulama Mazhab such as imam Syafi’i’s understanding about it. In this case, researcher intended to conduct a research about the concept and utilization pawning goods according to Imam Syafi’i. The purpose in this research was to find out the concept and utilization pawning goods according to imam syafi’i. The theorical framework in this research was a pawning concept and utilization the goods according to imam Syafi’i. The research methodology used library research where resources taken from library such as books, encyclopaedia, journals, magazines and etc. Meanwhile, the data analysis used editing, classification of coding and interpretation. Based on research findings showed that utilizing pawning goods in Sharia law refers to pawnbroker (ar-rahin), and ulama’s outlook about the pawning goods generally was allowed.
