Abstract
One of the important duties of a leader is to maintain employee discipline. A leader is said to be effective and qualified in his leadership, if his subordinates show disciplines. Maintaining and improving good employee discipline is quite difficult because there are so many factors that could be affected. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the leadership style of the sub-district head, employee discipline and the effect between these two variables among employees at camat pinggir office, Bengkalis District. The population in this study was 26 employees and all of them were sampled by using total sampling technique. The data collection technique used a questionnaire and the results were analyzed by simple linear regression with the help of the SPSS program. The results showed that: 1) The leadership style of the sub-district pinggir head of Bengkalis District was democratic and classified as quite effective. This is happens because there are still sub indicators that are classified as quite effective, follows division of labor, formulating problems, choosing the most appropriate solutions, suggestions, instructions, reports, praise, and incentives for achievement. 2) Employees work discipline of the office of the pinggir subdistrict of the Bengkalis District is classified as moderate. This is happens because there are still sub-indicators that are classified as moderate, follows filling spare time for work, being responsive in serving the community, and being responsive to community difficulties. 3) There is a significant effect between the democratic leadership style of the sub-district head on the employees discipline at sub-district office of Bengkalis District, which is means that every increase in the subdistrict head democratic leadership style also increasing employee work discipline constantly.
