Abstract

This research is entitled Intensive Reading Ability for Class VIII Students of SMP Negeri 1 Bangko Pusako, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency, 2017/2018 Academic Year. The problem discussed in this study is how the ability to read intensively in reading comprehension criteria is to find information in the reading of VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bangko Pusako, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency, 2017/2018 Academic Year. This study aims to describe, analyze, interpret, and conclude information and data about intensive reading skills in determining main ideas, explanatory ideas, mandates, and conclusions of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Bangko Pusako, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency, 2017/2018 Academic Year. , the population in this study were all students VIII, amounting to 43 consisting of 2 classes VIII e and VIII f. The sample used is a full sample. The method used in this research is descriptive method and quantitative research approach. The theory used is the theory of Hendry Guntur Tarigan (2008), Abdul Razak (2005), Sugiyono (2014), Tumpubolon (2015). The results of the research on reading comprehension ability in reading comprehension criteria to find information in the reading of VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bangko Pusako, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency, in determining main ideas, explanatory ideas, mandates, and conclusions. Determining the main idea in the reading text is categorized very well (87.90%), determining the explanatory idea in the reading text is very good (87.90%), determining the mandate or view of the author in the reading text in the good category (81.85%), determining the the conclusion in the reading text is very good (86.50%). It can be concluded that the average intensive reading ability in reading comprehension criteria to find information in the reading of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bangko Pusako, Bangko Pusako District, Rokan Hilir Regency, 2017/2018 Academic Year is an average of 86.03% which is categorized as very good and hypothesis is rejected.
