Abstract

Making sludge in lost circulation conditions requires a large cost. So that there is a need for a strategy to minimize costs. The strategies that are carried out include adding chemicals derived from organic waste as additional additives to drilling mud. Meranti wood powder is one of the LCM materials containing 62.92% cellulose so that meranti wood powder can be used as a substitute for CMC (carboxy methyl cellulose) in drilling mud in order to reduce drilling costs. In this research, meranti wood powder obtained from sawing waste is converted using the lignin separation method in cellulose so that it can be processed into CMC. To get cellulose from sawdust, several steps were taken, namely, boiling the sample with 20% NaOH, bleaching with H2O2, croton cellulose with 9% NaOH, monochloride acetic acid with HCl + acetic acid, neutralizer, and sieving. After the CMC of the sawdust was obtained, a research on the rheological value of the drilling mud was conducted. From the rheological data, it is known that the CMC of wood sawdust greatly affects the rheological value of the sludge. Where in each additional sample of 2-10 grams yields a viscosity value of 34.8-93 second, plastic viscoosity 8-14 cp, yield point 15-27 lb / 100 ft2, gel strength 1.5-5.33 lb / 100 ft2, mud cake 0.27-0.58 mm, and filtrate loss 8-5.3 ml / 30 minutes. The characteristics of CMC meranti wood powder that have the best levels for use in lost circulation conditions are standard mud plus 6 grams of CMC meranti wood powder with a viscosity value of 51 seconds, plastic viscosity 10 cp, yield point 19 lb/100 ft2, gel strength 3 lb/100 ft2, mud cake 0.42 mm, and filtrate loss 6.4 ml / 30 minutes.
