Abstract
Oil and gas production is always offset by an increase in the amount of waste generated from petroleum exploration. Petroleum exploration waste in the form of produced water contains organic and inorganic materials which have the potential as toxic and dangerous wastes that affect the environment and health. Therefore, before this production water is discharged or flowed into a body of water it is necessary to carry out a process of reducing hazardous content (water treatment) in order to meet the quality standards that have been determined as suitable water for disposal. Research on the effect of activated carbon as a filter media during the water treatment process has been conducted several times. This study will use activated bamboo bamboo Betung as a filter media in the water treatment process. Bamboo that will be used as a water treatment media must be activated before it can be used as a water treatment media. The activation process is carried out using a chemical activation method, namely by dehydration using an oven at 105 ° C, then followed by carbonization temperature of 500 ° C, and reducing the size using a blender and filtered with a 70 mesh sieve. Then proceed with activation with a solution of H3PO4 (phosphoric acid) 20% with 900 ℃ temperature. vertical. The results of the research have shown that the remaining oil content in the formation water that has been carried out the filtration process that is equal to 1.15 ppm with an efficiency of 85.63%, while for the TDS content the reduction value that has been carried out by the filtration process is 106.3 ppm with an efficiency of 97.38%, and for turbidity the value of the reduction of 6.48 NTU with an efficiency of 75.10%
