Abstract

Key Words: Project-Based Learning (PBL), Speaking Ability Project-Based Learning (PBL) offers to the teacher how to make the material becomes interested and challenged the students by make a project. The purpose of this research was to know the significant effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) towards students speaking ability of the second grade at SMPN 22 Pekanbaru. This research was quasi experimental research. they were experimental class and control class. The sample of this research consisted of 39 students for experimental class and 36 students for control class of the second grade at SMPN 22 Pekanbaru. The instrument of this research was speaking test of four components: fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. The effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL) can be seen from improving students’ speaking ability by comparing pre-test and post-test experimental score. The result showed that the score of pre-test was 49.75, while the score of post-test was 60.35. Based on the result showed that T calculated ) was 11.386 and T table ( ) was 2.000 as known was higher than as 11.386 > 2.000. It means that null hypothesis ( ) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis ( ) was accepted. It found that there was significant effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) towards students’ speaking ability of the second grade at SMPN 22 Pekanbaru.
