Abstract

One of the local wisdoms of the people of Siak Regency is Zapin art. In classical Zapin art, there are many songs that are often sung, one of which is the song Zapin Pulut Hitam. The song Zapin Pulut Hitam is a song that functions to accompany the Zapin Dance, in Zapin's music there are gambus and marwas instruments. This Zapin Pulut Hitam song is often performed at the Zapin Tradition competition. Not infrequently the song Zapin Pulut Hitam is re-arranged by artists, and the song Zapin Pulut Hitam is also played to accompany the Zapin Dance at big performances. This study aims to identify the values of character education through the art of music: lyrics of the song Zapin Pulut Hitam in Siak Regency, Riau Province. The theory used in researching the values of character education is the theory by Fatchul Mu'in, namely 1) trust, 2) respect, 3) caring, 4) justice, 5) responsibility, 6) civic attitude. Furthermore, it is also supported by the theory of the Josepshon Institute in Muhammad Yaumi which defines six pillars of character according to character counts, namely 1) trustworthiness, 2) respect, 3) caring, 4) justice, 5) responsibility, 6) nationalist. The method in this study uses descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach. The results of this study are that the song Zapin Pulut Hitam has character education values, including the value of trust in the second, third, and fourth lyric sections. The value of responsibility is found in the second and fourth lyric sections. The value of justice contained in the second lyric. The value of caring contained in the second and third lyric sections. Then the nationalist values contained in the first lyric. In this lyric is the basis or message of advice for the Malays in living a life that is based on Islam so that in the lyrics there is an appeal or praise to Allah SWT.
