Abstract

Quality teachers who produce good students are professional teachers. The professionalism of a teacher is shown by having the basic competencies of a teacher, namely pedagogical competence, professional competence, personality competence, and social competence. Of the four competencies, professional competencies that play a direct role in the learning process, relate to the ability of a teacher to manage learning, theoretical mastery and practice, and the process of its application to the learning process. Therefore, it is very important for a teacher be able to know professional competence well for the achievement of learning goals that have been set previously. This study aims to find out and explain Professional Competence of Cultural Arts Teachers (Music Art) at SMK Negeri 1 Pekanbaru Academic Year 2019/2020. This research used descriptive qualitative research methods. The subject of the study was the cultural arts teacher (music art) at SMK Negeri 1 Pekanbaru in class X Business Management, while the object of research is the professional competence of cultural arts teacher. Data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews, direct observation and documentation. The results showed that the professional competence of cultural arts teachers of SMK Negeri 1 Pekanbaru based on indicators of teacher professional competence had not been fully met. Of the five indicators of teacher professional competence, the fourth indicator on developing professionalism in a sustainable manner taking reflective actions has not been fulfilled by the cultural arts teacher. Cultural arts teachers have not taken reflective action in the form of research on learning such as classroom action research.
