Abstract

Writing is very important because writing is skill in which we express ideas, feelings, and thought in written form. The students’ writing skill of second year students at SMPIT Azziziyyah is still low especially in writing recount text. Multimedia storyboard is applied to solve this problem. Multimedia Storyboard is one of planning medium that encourage learners to think creatively and critically by visualizing the story they are going to write in sequence. The objective of this research is to know whether there is a significant effect of multimedia storyboard toward students’ writing skill of recount text of second year students of SMPIT Azziziyyah. The research methodology used was experimental research. The population of this research is the second year students SMPIT Azziziyyah. The sample of this research were dived into two classes: class VIII2 as experimental class and class VIII3 as control class. The instrument for collecting the data was written test of recount text which applied Multimedia Storyboard. The data were in the forms of pre-test and post-test scores. During this research, the students of the experimental class were taught by multimedia storyboard, while the students of control class were taught without multimedia storyboard. The data were analyzed by using dependent sample t-test from SPSS 24 program. The result of the t-test showed that the effect of multimedia storyboard toward students’ writing skill of recount text of second year students at SMPIT Aziziyyah was significant on students’ writing because the t-calculate was higher than t-table, (11.290> 2,064). The mean score of the students also showed that there was significant after applying multimedia storyboard. It was proved by the students’ mean score. The post-test mean score of the experimental class (80) was higher than the post-test mean score of the control class (64). Furthermore, there was a significant difference in the achievement between experimental class than control class. So, the researcher summarized that multimedia storyboard made the students’ writing more comprehended and well organized.Beside that, there were some difficulties in teaching writing at SMPIT Aziziyyah such as the students difficult to make a good sentence that were vocabulary correct, grammatically correct, and mechanically correct.
