Abstract

The background of this research is the low ability to write narrative students, which is 69.81 or with a low category. Classical completeness was only achieved in 9 students (28.13%). The problem of this research is how the application of the training method (driil) to improve the narrative writing ability of students of class VII2 of SMP Negeri 3 Tualang, Tualang District, Siak Regency in the 2016/2017 Academic Year. The purpose of this study was to describe, analyze and interpret the application of the drill method to improve narrative writing skills of Grade VII2 students of SMP Negeri 3 Tualang, Tualang District, Siak Regency 2016/2017 Academic Year. According to According to Djamarah (2010: 103), the method of training (driil) is generally used to obtain a dexterity or skill from the material learned. This research approach is a quantitative approach. This type of research is classroom action research (CAR). The results showed that the application of the drill method can improve the narrative writing skills of students in class VII2 of SMP Negeri 3 Tualang, Tualang District, Siak Regency, Academic Year 2016/2017. This increase is known from the average ability before applying the training method and after applying the training method. Before the application of the training method, the average ability of students was 69.81 (low), increasing after the application of the training method to 75.22 (moderate), increasing to 83.09 (moderate) in the second cycle.
