Abstract
This research aims to know the effect of the Probing Prompting model on the ability to solve mathematical problems of students in class X of the Taruna Satria Vocational School Pekanbaru. This research is a quasi experimental research with the design of Nonequivalent Control Group Design and the sampling technique used is purposive sampling. This research started from April 8 until April 30, 2019. In this research two classes were used, namely class X TKJ2 as a control class with conventional learning and class X TKJ3 as an experimental class with the Probing Prompting model. The instruments of data collection were in the form of the pretest and posttest questions, and the implementation observation sheet. Data collection techniques in this research were carried out by test techniques. Data were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test, t-test, Mann Whitney U Test (for data that is not normally distributed), and N-Gain test. The results of the research showed that there was an effect of the Probing Prompting model on the mathematical problem solving abilities of the experimental class and the control class. This can be seen from Sig. < α (α = 0.05) which is 0.040 < 0.05. In accordance with the criteria of H0 rejected and H1 accepted, from the results of the research it can be concluded that there was an effect of the Probing Prompting model on the mathematical problem solving abilities of students in class X of the Taruna Satria Vocational School Pekanbaru.
