Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Learning Cycle 5E model on mathematical communication skills of VIII grade students of SMPN 5 Pekanbaru. This research began on 15 February 2019 until 13March 2019. The form of this research is Quasi Experiments (quasi-experiments). The design of this study is Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population of this study was all VIII grade students of SMPN 5 Pekanbaru. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. Class VIII2 as an experimental class with 36 students and class VIII1 as a control class with 36 students. The instruments of data collection are tests and observation sheets. The test is used to see the results of students' mathematical communication skills that will be analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential analysis. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to see aspects of mathematical communication, the average mathematical communication skills of students increased, namely the experimental class
