Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning model on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in trigonometry material in class X Batam State High School 5. The population in this study were all students of class X IPA 5 Batam SMA 2018/2019, while the samples in this study were students of class X IPA 3 as the experimental class and X IPA 1 as the control class. This type of research is quasi-experimental with non equivalent control group design using purposive sampling technique. The data collection instruments used in this study were the pretest and posttest sheets, and the observation sheet for the implementation of the learning process. The data collection technique used in this study is a test technique. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed that: the pretest data of the two classes showed that there were differences in mathematical problem solving abilities between students who got the problem based learning model and students who received conventional learning, therefore using the twomean N-gain difference test. From the N-gain data, both classes find that | Z_count | = | -7.25 | > | Z_tabel | = 1.96, this means that H_0 is rejected and H_1 is accepted, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of the Problem Based Learning model on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities in trigonometry in class X of SMA 5 Batam.
