Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning process and improve students' motivation to learn mathematics through the application of the Problem-Based Learning model in learning mathematics in class VIIIc of PGRI SMP in the subject matter of constructing flat side spaces. Subjects in the study were class VIIIc SMP PGRI Pekanbaru 2017/2018 school year with a total of 23 students with 9 men and 14 women with heterogeneous abilities. Data collection takes place on March 28 to May 7, 2018. The form of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of two cycles, each of which consists of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The techniques and instruments for collecting data in the study were observation techniques and observation sheets as well as questionnaire techniques and student mathematics learning motivation questionnaire sheets. Based on data analysis techniques in this study, the analysis of teacher and student activity data and analysis of student learning motivation data. The results showed that there was an improvement in the learning process and an increase in the motivation to learn mathematics in class VIIIc SMP PGRI Pekanbaru. This can be seen from the results of the mathematics learning motivation questionnaire before the action was carried out was 57%, after the first cycle 66% and after the second cycle 77%. From the results of the research and discussion it was concluded that the application of the Problem-Based Learning model can improve the learning process and increase the motivation to learn mathematics in class VIIIc SMP PGRI Pekanbaru.
