Abstract

This study aims to determine how the role of the police intelligence unit in early detection of violent theft crimes. The method used is a qualitative method with descriptive research type by conducting interviews with key informants and informants who related to the topic. Based on the results, the implementation of early detection has been carried out properly and it is accordance with the Intelligence and Security’s SOP, namely, conducting patrols in areas prone to crime cases, and also taking the first action at the scene of the crime. In its implementation, it cannot be separated from the existing obstacles, such as the factors of facilities and infrastructure, the lack of witnesses and concrete evidence, and the community factor. There are three preventions taken by the police intelligence in preventing violent theft crimes, namely, primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention. This is done in order to prevent crime and to create security and order in society.
