Abstract
The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was positive effect of video towards students’ writing narrative text of first year students at SMA YLPI Pekanbaru. This research consisit of two variables, there were independent variable (X variable) and dependent variable (Y Variable). Independent variable used video. Then, dependent variable was students’ writing narrative text. Research method used in this study was quantitative method with research design was pre-experimental Research. The sample of this research was one group which was consists of 29 students. This research was conducted in first year students of SMA YLPI Pekanbaru. The research consists of five meetings, include pre-test, treatment and post-test. The research instrument that used in this research was writing test. The research finding showed that the improvement of students’ writing narrative text in post-test is bigger than pre-test. After calculating the data, the researcher found that the mean score of students’ writing before being taught by using video was 20.62 while the mean score of students’ after being taught by using video was 29.03. The result after counting using T test showed that tobs 8.011, whereas ttable with significant level 5% was 2.048. Therefore, tobs is bigger that ttable (6.405 > 2.048). It means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the video is affective to improve students’ writing narrative text of first year students of SMA YLPI Pekanbaru.
