Abstract

the purpose of the research is to find students writing at sma it imam asy syafii 2 pekanbaru. the independent variable of this research was journalist question technique and theb dependent variable was writing. the desidnm of this research was experimental research that focused on quantitative research. there was one instument used, that was writing test. the data were analyzed using spss 24 version. the researcher discovered that the students writing using journalist question technique at sma it imam asy syafii 2 pekanbaru was improved. the result of the T-test also showed that they used of journalist question technique in teaching writing was effective in improving the students writing because the T- calculated, (9,557>2.093). was higher than T table, 2093, the mean score of the students also showed that there was significant effect after applying journalist question technique. it was proofed by the students score , the p[ost test mean score of the experimental class (76) was higher than the post test mean score of the control class (67) it means that journalist question technique was improving the students writing in news item text of the tenth grade students at sma it imam asy syafii 2 pekanbaru. futhermore, there was a significant difference in the achievment betweeen experimental class and the control class. so that the researcher conclude the journalist question technique was more effective than conventional method. journalist question technique made the student writing more coherent and well organized. besides that there were some difficulties in teaching writing at sma it imam asy syafii 2 pekanbaru, such us the students difficult to build the sentences that were mechanically collect, grammatically correct and difficult made the sentences coherent each other
