Abstract

This research aims to know the promotion strategy of SMA PGRI Pekanbaru in attracting the prospective new students and recognizing the supporting factors and the inhibiting factors of promotion strategy at SMA PGRI in attracting prospective students. SMA PGRI is one of private schools in Pekanbaru City. This school was established in March 1980 and until now it already graduates thousand of students. This school has eleven classes at PGRI Pandan Street, and three classes at PGRI Lobal Street. This research used descriptive qualitative method. Data in this research were obtained through deep interview with four informants; they were Mr. Elfisno (The Principal), Mr. Ahmad (The Public Relation Officer), Mr. Kamdani (The Had of Administration Office), and Zulkifli (The Chairman of Student Board), then documentation and observation were conducted. The research results show that SMA PGRI conducts promotion first. In running the promotion activity, SMA PGRI uses some ways such as by spreading brochures to Junior High Schools in Pekanbaru and put on fliers at state or private junior high schools and also uses social media such as facebook, instagram, and website. Some inhibition factors of the promotion activity are the limited cost, zonation system, and the time. The supporting factors in the promotion activity are the moral support from the teacher and the members of student board at SMA PGRI Pekanbaru.
