Abstract

The reason for this research is because the novel can be used as a supporting tool in enriching student reading and can be used as learning teaching materials selected literature and novels relate to research problems. This research problem are: (1) What is the character conflict in Arafat's Tanah Surga Merah novel Nur; (2) How is conflict learning by Arafat's novel Red Heaven Land Nur in class XII A of SMA 2 Bangko Pusako High School in Rokan Hilir Regency. The theory used is a structural theory from Burhan Nurgiantoro (2010). Research methodology this is a qualitative and quantitative approach, the type of library research and field, the method is a description. The data source of this research is the novel Tanah The Red Heaven by Arafat Nur with page number 305, published by PT Gramedia Jakarta Main Library in 2016, Indonesian Language Teachers and students class XII A. Data collection is done by reading and taking notes and techniques conclusion, while data analysis is done by heuristic-hermeneutic, technique observation, interview technique, questionnaire technique. The results of the study are described as follows. (1) Internal conflicts experienced by the main character (Murad) include the conflict between choices that are not in accordance with desires, anxieties, doubts in facing problems, and expectations do not match reality. (2) external conflicts experienced by the main character (Murad) with red party people, Jumadil, tengku treat greetings with arrogant youth and the natural environment. (3) Learning conflict figure in Arafat Nur's Tanah Surga Merah novel in class XII A of SMA 2 Bangko Pusako Model, Rokan Hilir Regency. Interview results from the Language Teacher Indonesia at the pre-instructional stage is good, the instructional stage is quite good and stage good evaluation. The results of the questionnaire from students at the pre-instructional stage are good, the instructional stage good and good evaluation stage.
