Abstract

Language activities will manifest well if humans are mutually work together between the speaker and the other person. This study examines about Principles of Cooperation. The problems in this study are: How are maxims the principle of cooperation found in the speech of students with teacher grade X IPA 5 Bangkinang City 2 High School Bangkinang District Kampar District 2018/2019 school year? This study aims to describe, analyze, and interpret the principle of cooperation in student speech with teacher grade X IPA 5 Bangkinang City 2 High School. In doing research, the author uses ethnographic methods, data collection techniques: observation techniques, recording techniques, and note taking techniques. The theory put forward by Grice (Rahardi, 2008: 52-57). The population of this study is all dialogues of students with teachers from the Bangkinang City 2 High School. The sample of this study is all dialogues between students and Bangkinang City 2 High School teachers recorded at the time the research was conducted. The results of the analysis of the principle of cooperation, namely: (a) quantity maxim found, out of 146 utterances, 91 utterances included cooperative speech and uncooperative 11 utterances. (b) maxim quality found 90 cooperative speeches, while uncooperative ones 10 utterances. (c) maxim of relevance found 98 cooperative speeches, and 7 non-cooperative ones. (d) maxim of implementation or method cooperative speech is found in 9 utterances, and those that are not cooperative 137 utterances. The conclusion of this study was 146 speeches and 6 situations namely: (a) quantity maxim 91 utterances. (b) maxim of 90 speech quality. (c) maxim relevance of 98 utterances. (d) maximal implementation or method of speech 9.
