Abstract
The Adiwiyata Program is one of the national scope work programs managed by the State Ministry of the Environment in order to realize the development of environmental education. This study aims to determine the communication activities of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru in socializing the Adiwiyata program and to find out the inhibiting factors and supporting factors of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru in socializing the Adiwiyata program. This research uses a qualitative approach. In this study, there were 6 subjects. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The results showed that the communication activities of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru in socializing the Adiwiyata program did not only involve the Principal, Deputy Principal and Teachers as communicators. Pekanbaru Muhammadiyah 1 Middle School also involves the Pekanbaru City Environment Agency. The media used in the socialization are direct (oral) counseling and installation of banners or slogans around the school environment. The target of the socialization is all citizens of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru, both teachers and students. The Adiwiyata program socialization at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru received support from residents of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru and increased the understanding of the school community about the importance of protecting the environment. The inhibiting factors of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru in socializing the Adiwiyata program were the lack of use of advertising media and the implementation of the socialization not specifically scheduled. The supporting factor of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru in socializing the Adiwiyata program is the cohesiveness of the teachers in socializing the Adiwiyata program.
