Abstract

Optimizing teacher performance is very important and becomes a major task that must be done by the principal as a leader in an institution called as a school, especially Islamic Religious Education teachers who have a big role in improving student morale. However, in the field the researchers still saw the implementation of principal’s responsibilities as not yet maximized. The lack of classroom management in teaching and learning, the lack of principal interaction with teachers, and the presence of some teachers who are still neglectful of their duties as an educator who will be encouraged and imitated by students. For that, as an effort to improve teacher performance is to improve performance by the leadership of the institution, namely the school principal. The role of the principal in improving teacher performance is very important. The formulation of the problem in this study is what is the principal’s effort in improving the performance of Islamic Religious Education teachers in the Junior High School Tapung Hulu Village Community Resilience Institute. The purpose of this study was to determine the efforts of principals in improving the performance of Islamic Religious Education teachers. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation, after which it is compiled and presented in the form of a description to be analyzed in order to obtain conclusion. The results of the discussion showed that the principal’s efforts to improve the performance of Islamic Religious Education teachers were through increased time discipline such as sanctions for late teachers would be deducted from salary, by motivating each teacher both personally and in groups, rewarding every teacher who excels every month that announced after the ceremony, the application of intensive guidance both periodically and unspecifiedly, the application of good evaluation by summons then provides direction for good both repeatedly and gradually. With continuous improvement is almost similar to motivation which only distinguishes the monitoring of improvement made in the near enough time and builds a good team work the headmaster puts himself as the leader and the teacher can understand the rules made by the team means respecting one another.
