Abstract

This research aims at how the therapeutic communication of drug addicts at the Mercusuar Riau Foundation for Recipient Institution (IPWL). At this time drug abuse is increasingly happening so that drug users are increasing, this can be due to the lack of places for rehabilitation. Drug abuse victims are required to undergo a medical and social rehabilitation process. Rehabilitation is a procedure in which a drug addict is given medical or psychological treatment to overcome drug dependence. The communication process to drug addicts is not easy because it requires special communication, namely therapeutic communication which aims to build a relationship of cooperation and trust in a recovery. In this study researchers used research methods. qualitative with a qualitative descriptive approach to obtain research data by collecting the required data then the available data will be analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that there are four stages of therapeutic communication between counselors and drug addicts resident at the Mercusuar Riau Recipient Institution (IPWL), namely the registration stage, the screening and assessment stage, the rehabilitation stage and the further development stage. The obstacle is a change in the atmosphere felt by addiction counselors and drug addicts residents. The use of communication is applied by addiction counselors when residents undergo to complete their drug dependence recovery. In these four stages, the use of therapeutic communication is applied to provide support to resdients in the recovery process from dug dependence
