Abstract

This study aims to determine the perception of the Pinggir Village community about hoax news in online media. This study uses qualitative methods with quantitative research. The sample in this study was the Pinggir Village Community as many as 99 people using the slovin formula. The data of this study is the primary data source from direct observation in the form of data collection by distributing questionnaires to the sample. Secondary data of this research is data that is already available or supporting data in research in the form of documents, monographs, books and other research results. Data collection techniques in this study consisted of a questionnaire, observation, and documentation. Data analysis in this study used descriptive statistics. Based on research conducted on Village Community Perceptions of Hoax News in Online Media, it is dominated by quite good answers with a score of 44 respondents with a percentage of 44.70%. Then submitted with a good category as many as 30 with a percentage of 30.5%. while in the unfavorable category as many as 25 respondents with a proportion of 25.25%. This is also supported by the results of field observations which show that people generally seek the latest information to satisfy their curiosity and provide a sense of protection against related crimes. Most people immediately believe the information they find and immediately spread the information to their friends and family. If seen from this it is known that the community does not process or check the truth of the information.
