Abstract

This study aims to improve the student character education through a traditional game, that is Engklek. This study is conducted because there are some students whose negative characters at the Sakinah Islamic Kindergarten school in Pandau Jaya Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The type of this study is a classroom action research (CAR). The subject of this study is the children of group B at Sakinah Islamic Kindergarten in Pandau Jaya Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The data collection technique is through direct observation. The data analysis techniques are through the steps of data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that the student character education through Engklek game is successful because they have met the indicators of success in Cycle II. The improvement of character education indicators from the initial condition (pretest) to cycle I and cycle II reach the success rate up to 80%. The improvement in success can be seen by comparing the data results ​​before applying the Engklek game and after applying the Engklek game. In the initial condition (pre-test), the results of the development show a percentage of 0%. Then in the cycle I, the results of development show a percentage of 0%. While in the cycle II, the student character develops very well, with the improvement of indicators on intelligence (37.5%), cooperation (100%), assertiveness (87.5%), imagination power (12.5%), ambition (75%), courage (87.5%) and attention (37.5%). In conclusion, the student character education has improved after applying the Engklek game at Sakinah Islamic Kindergarten in Pandau Jaya Village, Siak Hulu District.
