Abstract

The background of this study is the fact that there are still many teachers of Islamic Studies whose problems in improving their professionalism to carry out their duties as educators. This case also happensat SMAN 2 Rumbio Jaya, with thesignssuch as:some Islamic Studies teachers havea lack of ability in teaching, some Islamic Studies teachers have many additional tasks so that the main task is disrupted, some Islamic Studies teachers have not met the standards of competence as a teacher or educator, and the lack of supervision from the principal on teacher performance. The aim of this study is to investigate the principal’s efforts in improving the professionalism among Islamic Studies teachers at SMAN 2 Rumbio Jaya, Kampar Regency. The typeof this study is qualitative research. The data collection technique used is interview, with the main informant is the principal of SMAN 2 Rumbio Jaya, namely Mr. Kamaruddin, M.Pd and other supporting informants, namely Mr. Rusman Ahmad, S.Ag and Mr. Budi Irawan, S.Pd.I (the Islamic Studies teachers) and Mr. Drs. H. Abdul Wahid (the vice principal in the field of curriculum). The data processing and analysis techniques used are data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification. The results of thisstudyshow that the principal’s efforts to improve professionalism among Islamic Studies teachers are: Providing a conducive work space, organizing a comfortable and fun school environment, discipline, giving punishments and prizes, KKG, MGMP, technical guidance, workshops and seminars, Upgrading and workshops, Class visiting, Micro teaching, Training and coaching, Motivation, Creating good cooperation and Providing incentive funds in accordance with the time, discussion and evaluation. The suggestion of this studyis that the principal should be a guide to improve the professionalism amongIslamic Studies teachers and it is expected that Islamic Studies teachers keep improving their professionalism at work
