Abstract

The National Board of Zakat or BAZNAS in Pekanbaru City has five work programs, one of them is the Program of Pekanbaru Smart City. This program has been running since 2010 until now. The Pekanbaru Smart City is a program of the National Board of Zakat or BAZNAS in Pekanbaru City to help underprivileged students of elementary, junior high, and high school levels in Pekanbaru City. The program includes tuition assistance, scholarships for foster children, and annual new school packages for underprivileged students. The problem formulation of this study: how are the roles of BAZNAS through the Program of Pekanbaru Smart City for Community Empowerment?. The aim of this study is to find out whether the BAZNAS through the Program of Pekanbaru Smart city have roles for community empowerment. The conceptual framework of this study is the community empowerment. The type of this study is field research with a qualitative method. The population of this study consists of 5 participants. The sample is taken through a saturated sampling technique, that is a technique of determining the sample if all members of the population are used as samples. The data collection techniques of this study are observation, interviews and documentation. Based on the results of interviews with the National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) in Pekanbaru city, it can be concluded that the Program of Pekanbaru City Smart is able to empower the community. The suggestions for the National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) in Pekanbaru city is to conduct more socialization and reach larger community to socialize the Programs of BAZNAS in Pekanbaru city.
