Abstract
This research was carried out in Karimun Regency. The purpose of this study was to find out which sectors were the leading sectors in Karimun Regency and to determine the role of the leading sectors in employment and employment opportunity elasticity in Karimun Regency. The data analysis used in this study was quantitative descriptive method, namely the LQ (Location Quotient) method, the method that compares Karimun Regency GRDP to the Riau Islands Province GRDP gives an LQ value that indicates business or nonbusiness economic activities in Karimun Regency. Besides, the analysis of labor elasticity was also applied in order to looking at the role of the leading sectors in employment absorption in Karimun Regency . From the results of this study, it is known that from nine business sectors that make up the Karimun Regency GRDP, the sectors that have LQ> 1 are in the area of agricultural, trades, services, and transportation sectors. In conclusion, one of the superior economic sectors in Karimun Regency, the services sector is the sector that has the most role in absorbing labor, namely the elasticity of 5.42%.
