Abstract

In general, only part of the contents is taken for consumption, so the rest of the shells is left alone and becomes useless waste, one of which is shellfish waste. With the content of lime in the shells, it is hoped that it can be used as a substitute for some of the fine aggregate in the mixture of paving blocks. The aim is to determine the effect on the value of compressive strength and water absorption in paving blocks. The use of Dara Shells waste as a partial substitute for sand with a mixed composition of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% of the amount of sand used. Making paving blocks using a mold measuring 20 x 10 x 6 cm and testing is carried out after 28 days of age. This study uses the SNI 03-0691-1996 method on concrete bricks (paving blocks). The use of virgin clam shell waste as a partial substitute for fine aggregate can increase the value of the compressive strength of paving blocks in each variation, 0%, the compressive strength value is 186.47 kg/cm2, 10%, the compressive strength value is 254.69 kg/cm2, 20 % obtained a compressive strength value of 288.68 kg/cm2, and 30% obtained a compressive strength value of 336.36 kg/cm2. While the results of the water absorption test have decreased in each of its variations, namely in the variation of 0%, the percentage of absorption of water absorption is 4.89%, 10% is obtained the percentage of absorption of water absorption is 4.75%, 20% is the percentage of water absorption. absorption of water absorption is 4.53%, and 30% is obtained the percentage of absorption of water absorption is 3.53%. The conclusion of this study is that the increasing use of virgin clamshell waste as a partial substitute for fine aggregate makes the compressive strength increase in each variation, and Based on the water absorption tests that have been carried out, the use of virgin clamshell waste as a partial substitute for fine aggregate makes water absorption decreased in each variation
