Abstract
This research is motivated by the importance of mathematical critical thinking skills in studying differential equations courses. In addition, a person's thinking ability will be greatly influenced by the individual's cognitive style. Therefore, this study aims to describe students' mathematical critical thinking skills in terms of cognitive style in differential equations courses. Qualitative research is a type of research used in this study. The research was conducted at the FKIP UIR Mathematics Education Study Program involving 77 students who were taking differential equations courses. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman stages. Based on the results of the research data analysis, it was concluded that students' mathematical critical thinking skills in the differential equations subject were included in the critical category. There is one indicator of the ability to think critically in mathematics, namely the ability to analyze or evaluate algorithms where the ability of students is included in the fairly critical category. The dominant cognitive style is the Field Dependent cognitive style. Students with the Field Independent cognitive style has the ability to think mathematically critical with very critical criteria, while students with the Field Dependent cognitive style have the ability to think critical mathematically with sufficient criteria.
