Abstract

Welding is the local connection of several metal rods by using heat energy as a welding material in weld. Welding using the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) method is a widely used welding for heavy construction, such as bridges, tall buildings, and others. SMAW welding on AISI 1045 steel using E7016 electrode with diameter 3.2 mm. This test method uses medium carbon steel AISI 1045 which has a carbon content of 0.45 %. This specimen is made of double V double shaft for welding, specimen of tensile test in accor dance with ASTM E8 standard. This steel is widely used for construction and manufacturing because it has good ductility and moderate strength. The purpose of this study is to compare and look for good tensile strength. The highest tensile strength value with the cooling medium is the salt water of 549.605 Mpa and the lowest tensile strength is air of 503.67Mpa. The highest hardness value with the cooling medium is salt water in the HAZ area of 866 HV, the weld area of the highest hardness value of brine uf 413 HV and the main metal of the highest hardness value of salt water uf 292 HV. Whereas the lowest hardness value in refrigerant media was used oil in HAZ area of 274 HV, weld area of lowest hardness value on well water of 274 HV, weld area of lowest hardness value of air of 231 HV and the lowest hardness value on well water of 221 HV. On standard steel hardness values of 231 HV and from observation uf welded metallografhy in the process of cooling media after welding is dominated by ferrite which signifies the increase uf ductility possessed by the specimen, while in the more pearlite HAZ areas that make specimens have high hard properties. On the observation of the parent metal area there is in creased pearlite due to the heat transfer which makes the parents metal structure changes and increases.
